Since I regularly use Nutiva’s “Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil” (OEVCO), I decided to give their organic refined version a try.
In Baking:
Nutiva Organic Refined Coconut Oil makes a healthy (non-hydrogenated, non-GMO and hexane free) way to achieve tender, flaky homemade crusts and cookies. The higher smoke temperature makes this refined oil ideal for both baking and sautéing (400F vs. 350F for OEVCO).
[I made two double batches of banana muffins with this product. One uses half butter and half refined coconut oil. The other uses just the refined oil (pictured in cupcake liners). They turned out nearly the same–moist, light and fluffy instead of dense and dry].
Oral Health (“Oil Pulling”):
The refined oil is smoother and creamier than OEVCO. Still, my mouth doesn’t feel as clean as it usually does after oil pulling. I do like how the neutral taste/smell makes it easier for me to keep swishing for the recommended 15-20 minutes.
Hair and Body Treatments:
I make lotion, lip balm and hair conditioner out of organic coconut oil. The refined oil feels lighter than OEVCO. It’s easier to apply and is not so greasy. I also enjoy taking a break from smelling like coconut.
Note: Though refined coconut oil has less phytonutrients than what is found in OEVCO (antioxidizing polyphenols get damaged during the heating process), Nutriva has made a deodorized coconut oil that has the same amount of Medium Chain Triglycerides (63%) and Lauric Acid (50%) as its extra virgin counterpart.
Nutiva’s steam refining process (in lieu of using chemicals) clearly makes this a better refined product.

I am not a stylist, so this is not professional advice, just my experience. I LOVE this oil! I use it before bleaching for protection and leave it in while bleaching. I also use it as a deep-conditioner about once a week, working it into my hair and leaving it for a few hours (any longer and excess protein in the hair can actually CAUSE breakage). My horribly damaged, bleached hair drinks this stuff in and looks soft and shiny afterward! It’s not magic….the damage is still there…but appearance and feel are greatly improved. I recommend a long spoon for digging out the bottom of the jar 😉

Like velvet
Of the many coconut oils this is by far the best i have put on my body as a moisturizer. It is silky velvet nice to touch. It mixes well with essentials oils to fragrance. I have cooked with it but prefer to use it as health regime. I have auto immune that attacks all my organs including my skin. So i can only use very healthy clean products that my body will accept. I love this brand.

First I want to compliment the company. I had one jar that came defective, so I put in a request for a return, and their replacement was there by 8:30 the next morning. Awesome service!
I’ve used the coconut oil a couple times now and I don’t taste coconut which is great because I hate that flavor. It does not smell or taste like coconut.
My only complaint is the jar is indented, so I can’t get the lid back on. But that has nothing to do with the quality of the oil or the service.
